BWC Offers Beginner Lessons
There are three sessions offered this summer to sign up in. Due to equipment and instructor limitations, monthly enrollment is limited to 15 students. The format consists of three lessons at Gene Coulon Park in Renton, and a forth lesson/BBQ at Newcastle Beach Park. Lessons are every Tuesday from 4:30PM to 7:00PM.
The First lesson will contain an hour of theory and ground handling to give beginners basic knowledge on how to up-haul the sail and control the board. After everyone has had plenty of practice on the ground, the next step is to it out on the water. Depending on available time and the cooperation of the wind, everyone should be able to sail out, tack and return to shore.
On subsequent lessons, more practice and techniques are taught. On the final lesson (lesson #4) we will meet at Newcastle Beach to get the feeling of another area. This graduation lesson will prepare the new sailor enough to check out club equipment and participate with more advanced sailors or out on their own.
The cost of a lesson set is $25 and includes an food for a BBQ on the last day at Newcastle.
2008 Lesson Schedule:
- Session 1 – June 3, 10, 17, 24
- Session 2 – July 8, 15, 22, 29
- Session 3 – August 5, 12, 19, 26
Lessons times are from 4:30 to 7:00PM
